WELCOME TO ACTIVE VOICE PRESS

Active Voice Press, founded by Gayle E. Pitman in 2011, is a small independent publishing house focusing on LGBT nonfiction, as well as LGBT-themed children’s books. Our mission is directly reflected in our name. We publish books that give voice to the experiences of a wide range of sexual and gender minorities. In addition, we use a voice in our writing that is thought-provoking and informative, yet is accessible, creative, and reader-friendly.

Active Voice Press is publisher of the award-winning book Backdrop: The Politics and Personalities behind Sexual Orientation Research. Our upcoming nonfiction books include Bringing LGBTQ Science to Life: Essays on Psychological Research, Politics, and Culture (due out in June 2013) and Fringe: On the Edges of the Mainstream Gay Community (due out in 2014). Our first children’s book, This Day in June, will be released later in 2013.
